Significance of Ramanavami

Ram Navami is the birthday celebration of Lord Ram. This widely celebrated festival falls on the ninth day of the Lunar Hindu month of Chaitra which is also the last day of Chaitra Navratri. Ram Navami is celebrated with great joy and enthusiasm throughout India but more specifically in Ayodhya, the birth place of Lord Ram. According to the ancient epic, Ramayana, there was an emperor in the Treta Yuga called King Dasharath who had three wives, Kausalya, Sumitra, and Kaikeyi. He had no children and was worried for a future emperor of the Ayodhya. One day he was suggested by the great sage Vasistha to perform the Puthra Kamesti Yagna to fulfill his desire for a child. He was suggested to invite Maharshi Rishyasringa to perform yajna. After performing the yajna, he was given a bowl of the divine Kheer by the Yagneshwara. Once, He offered the Kheer to his all three wives. Later, all his wives conceived. On the Ninth day of Chaitra month at noon Kausalya gave birth to Ram who was the 7th incarnation of the Lord Vishnu.

For students and practitioners of Vedic Astrology, the horoscope of Lord SriRama is perhaps the most widely talked about and mentioned birth charts of them all. Sage Valimiki mentions in Ramayana that Lord Rama took birth at mid-day with 5 planets (Jupiter, Sun, Venus, Mars and Saturn) when Moon was traversing the nakshatra of Punarvasu in zodiac sign of Cancer or Kataka rashi. Thus, it can be implied that Lord Rama was born in the ascendant of Cancer/Kataka with Moon and Jupiter in the 1st house giving rise to a powerful Gaja Kesari Yoga with Sun placed powerfully in the 10th house. This horoscope is flooded with a plethora of Raja Yogas but also numerous problems which could all be seen by the events that occurred in the life of Lord Rama.

Ram Navami signifies the arrival of divine power on the earth and the victory of the good over the evil. It tries to teach us to follow the path of dharma and righteousness and remove every bit of negativity in us. Jyotish For All wishes you all a very Happy Rama Navami.
